AVI50222 Diploma of Aviation (Commercial Pilot Licence – Aeroplane)

The AVI50222 Diploma of Aviation (Commercial Pilot Licence – Aeroplane) is an ideal course for Domestic and International students seeking a pathway to a career in aviation. This course has been designed in conjunction with industry to ensure that upon completion you will be equipped with the skills and knowledge you need to fly as a professional pilot. Pilots with a Commercial Pilot Licence work in a diverse range of industry sectors – from agriculture and tourism to aerial surveillance and passenger transport.

This course includes both flight training and theory training – that means you will master the practical while engaged with the theoretical.

Flight Training

150 hour course* option:

This is an integrated program which means that you study full time on campus to complete both theory and flight training.

You will complete a minimum of 150 hours flying which includes at least:

  • 70 hours as pilot in command (PIC)
  • 20 hours cross country as pilot in command (PIC)
  • 10 hours instrument flight time (IF)


200-hour course* option:

The non-integrated program consists of the same format as the integrated program except that:

  • Theory can be completed as home study (domestic only)
  • The course can be completed on a part time basis; hence duration may vary (domestic only)
  • International students have the option of enrolling onto the 200-hour course which may aid in meeting overseas regulatory requirements when converting a CASA licence.

    You will complete a minimum of 200 hours flying which includes at least:
  • 100 hours pilot in command (PIC)
  • 10 hours instrument flight time (IF)


*Course must be completed within 2 years from course commencement. Additional fees may apply where extra flight hours (remedials) are required above the total course hours for integrated and non-integrated course options. Please refer to the student handbook.

QUALIFICATION DESCRIPTION

This qualification reflects the roles of flight crew personnel performing normal and emergency commercial pilot duties in support of commercial or Defence aviation flight operations.

Flight crew duties include applying technical and non-technical aviation skills and knowledge to a wide range of air transport operations, including passenger, charter and cargo operations.

Individuals working at this level will apply knowledge and skills to demonstrate autonomy, judgement and defined responsibility in known or changing contexts and within broad but established parameters.

This qualification forms some of the requirements for certification as a commercial pilot by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) as directed by Civil Aviation Safety Regulation (CASR) Part 61 Flight crew licensing.
People seeking certification should check these requirements with CASA.

Entry Requirement

International students:

  • A pass in an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with an overall grade of 6.0 or equivalent with no band score below 5.5.
  • Completion of Year 12 English at an Australian school or college, or equivalent.
